Guess What?

repost from July, 2018

My bff Kerry is always there for me, ready to correct my typos and grammatical errors, especially those dreaded apostrophes.

It’s hard to believe its July already, it’s absolutely true what my Mother use to say to me,

“Don’t wish your life away Sharon, before you know it you are old”

Why does time seem to move at a faster pace the older you get? I don’t know the answer to that question, what I do know is that we must not waste a second of every day.

I often reflect on her wise words, my beautiful Mum died at only 51 years young and now that I have surpassed her age I would like to think about my life with a zest for making the most of every day.

“Live your life every day with purpose, be excited, laugh, don’t waste a second of living your best life”

Okay the last few words I have taken from my muse Oprah, one of my favourite quotes by Oprah is to simply,

“Live your best life

I recommend getting yourself a copy of a beautiful hard cover book titled Live Your Best Life: A Treasury of Wisdom, Wit, Advice, Interviews, and Inspiration from O, The Oprah Magazine.

A New Day is on the horizon

repost from February, 2018

I am sending you, my readers an abundance of New Years optimism. I know its late, however it’s always a good time to transmit good will.

I am sending an affirmation to all, who will read this scribe, for every year to be superb, take a chance and enjoy your life.

My blogging in the second half of 2017 was all about our active Volcano, Gunung Agung. I felt obliged to update my Community of readers regularly about our “Big Fella”,I became obsessed with the process of the Volcano.

Although I still keep a close eye on our “The Big Fella” I now feel calm, knowing that the activity of the eruption will follow the course of nature.

My interview with Mangku Bon  has left me feeling composed and focused on what is important.  My daily ritual of prayer and meditation continues to keeps me aligned. I believe that faith is a constant reality of truth.

I am joyful, my soul is filled with gratitude every day I wake up on this beautiful planet we all occupy.

It is my intention to inspire my readers, to seek out a positive outlook even when faced with the toughest of challenges.

I am optimistic and excited about the future for our majestic Island of the Gods, I feel blessed to be living in Bali at this time in history.

I was thrilled to be interviewed by news.com.au  about my fascinating meeting with Mangku Bon, additionally the story was featured in the International Business Times.

For now I will resign from my self appointed role, which was updating my blog on the activities of Mount Agung. Check the Official site MAGMA regularly for updates.

What I would like to diarize in this blog, is my enthusiasm and excitement I feel this year.

I envisage a fresh wave of confidence for the future. Reinforced by my creative muse Oprah and her unforgettable speech at the 75th Golden Globes Award Ceremony on January 7, 2018.

A New Day is on the horizon

There are so many reasons why the 75th Golden Globes Award Ceremony was one I will never forget. My admiration for the actress and activists campaign hit close to home, my own involvement in advocating for survivors of domestic abuse has also been phenomenal.

How incredible that A list actresses Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep and Laura Dern amongst others wore black as a sign of respect for victims and survivors of domestic violence.

The scene was dramatic, the world wide audience was made aware of the Time’s Up Campaign , an initiative which is raising money for the legal defense fund, this fund will provide support to victims of sexual harassment and assault.

The campaign also seeks inclusion, equality and parity for women and marginalized people across all industries.

A powerful moment in the show was when Reese Witherspoon accepted the Golden Globe for Big Little Lies, which won the Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture made for Television.

In her speech Reese gave thanks to the many women who had broken their silence, she reassured the audience by saying,

“Time is up, we hear you, we see you, and we will tell your stories”

Finally Oprah was welcomed to the stage by Reese to accept The Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is an honorary Golden Globe Award bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.

I was in awe, in fact I needed to find her speech on social media to play it over and over again.

75th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Season 75

Oprah began her speech by talking about herself as a little girl in 1964, sitting on the linoleum floor of her mother’s house in Milwaukee, watching Anne Bancroft present the Oscar for best actor, which was awarded to Sidney Poitier at the 36th Academy Awards. She went on to talk about her Mum being bone-tired from cleaning other people’s houses.

It was incredible, the first page of my memoir starts in 1964 when my 21 year Mother was sitting on the floor with her baby girl. She was in her suburban home in Melbourne watching a small black & white television as The Beatles arrived to a frenzy of hysterical fans.

Could Oprah have read my book?

I don’t know the answer to that question yet, however what I know for sure is this. It doesn’t matter if Oprah has read my book, I now know that my heroine thinks like me. I am still dumbstruck by the similarities.

The rest of her speech was truly phenomenal, my friend Lisa Zimmer summed up my feelings perfectly when she wrote on her Instagram Post,

 Power~ Strength~ Truth~  by Lisa Zimmer

Watching Oprah receive the Cecil B. DeMille award last night showed such poignancy to our nation, and to those watching our country.  We saw a woman with steadfast integrity, awareness and intelligence stake claim to the power of standing in truth.
We watched as a country that currently struggles with truth and security, validate the importance of standing in integrity.
We saw that power and strength does not lie within a specific gender, but within truth.
We witnessed leadership in a woman
who silently, has mentored millions, simply by showing up in authenticity.
She has showed us that shattering illusions created to repress aren’t just possible, but applauded, because by speaking truth, we create positive change.
We saw a leader last night, a leader for all of humanity. God bless you Oprah for all you have created in our world.

I will sign off my first blog for the year and reiterate wise words from Oprah, the beautiful soul who continues to guide me in my creative accomplishments,

“What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,  I want all the girls watching here now to know that a new day is on the horizon”

Blessings always,

Bali – Mount Agung VOLCANO ALERT…. Blog 9_ tolerance, messages and signs

More than 130,000 plus people have been evacuated from their homes here in Bali, life goes on.

For updates check MAGMA Indonesia’s website.

Bali is open for business as usual.

The airports are open, the hotels and restaurants welcome your business with warmth and sincerity you will only find in Bali.

Our hospitality on this magical Island is truly unique, even under the toughest of circumstances.

Today in our compound we are celebrating Tumpek Uduh (Pengatag), we are giving offerings in our family temple to the Gods to say thank you for horticulture.

The Island’s six monthly ceremony Galungan dan Kuningan is fast approaching, today we pray to the Gods and hope that we will be blessed with fruit, flowers and leaf from the trees, this produce will be used in offerings for Galungan dan Kuningan.

It seems timely that nature is the current theme, it certainly needs to be an urgent discussion.

Natural disasters are happening all over the world more frequently, only two days ago Prince Charles called for decisive action be taken on climate change.

Here in Bali we are in a state of suspension, strange things are happening, the energy on the Island is unexplainable for us sensitive souls.

Vicki Ruhr gives sound advice,

As long as there is no ETA to hold to and live by, how about we try and live by the Balinese sentiment of tolerance* and making the best of an extraordinary situation? *remember the words tolerance and suffering are interchangeable too…..

For anyone who maybe reading my blog for the fist time maybe you’re thinking, here we go, another expat in Bali with too much time on her hands, the experts have the situation covered. What’s left to report?

Well maybe your right, please feel free to stop reading now if I am boring you or the content of my blog is not beneficial in any way.

After my rant last night about being nice to each other, I may as well continue the conversation about feelings and sensitivity.

It is certainly a relief that I have written publically about my shadow voices in my memoir Scarlett Voices in the Shadows.

I can hear you now,

“Who does she think she is, full of self importance and self promotion”

Negative speak washes off me easily these days.

When I heard Oprah speak about manifestation and listening to signs as normal, I felt relieved.

I was not alone.

If #Oprah feels connected to a higher source, then I am okay.

Michele Yoga who has lived in Bali for nine years also gets messages.

I am going to put it out there because she wants me to.

My own shadow voices are fully wired at the moment, they wont stop chattering away furiously.

They urged me to call Michele this morning after she posted another majestic photograph of Mount Agung.

MountAgung6.30am7Oct2017

Mount Agung at 6.30am  7 October, 2017  Photograph by Michele Yoga

I must add though that I have never met Michele, my only connection with Michele is though my observation online.

I have been admiring her humanitarian work in Amed and the surrounding area.

michele1

Michele organised bedding and food for people sleeping under a tarp in a private house of their friends.

I sent Michele a message last night requesting permission to publish her photographs.

I was grateful when she happily agreed.

To my utter surprise Michele explained how she also hears messages, the signals are coming from Mount Agung.

Michele speaks my language.

I get it.

Michele’s messages were clear and concise. The messages were given to me at the exact moment she was staring at Mount Agung,

Energy buzzing at high frequency in my left ear

He is saying don’t ignore me

Stop thinking of yourselves, open your hearts and connect with others

Don’t become complacent

Don’t ignore me

Afterwards Michele told me she had goose bumps radiating throughout her body.

I also felt goose bumps radiate through my body at that synchronised moment.

Michele told me she has been mesmerised by Mount Agung for years, his energy is part of her soul and she feels hypnotised by the force of his power.

Additionally she feels compelled to stay close, to help were she can in and around the Amed district.

michele2

Baby was born with cleft palate on 23 September, although not a evacuee Michele referred the baby to Solemen Indonesia who will take care of surgery to correct this.

How should I conclude my blog after publically putting out messages from an awe inspiring mountain with the possibility of an eruption?

I will quote the Queen herself,

Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new centre of gravity. Don’t fight them. Just find a new way to stand”

“If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough”

#Oprah Winfrey

Blessings always,

Sharon x

Oprah #anoprahmustreadstory

So much has happened since I posted this letter to Oprah in November last year.

Sharon Karyasa

Dear Oprah,

I guess the best way to write you a letter would be to put out a letter onto my blog and then pray you will read it.

I met a lovely man today in Ubud, Bali where I live who suggested I write you an open letter on my blog with a hashtag #anoprahmustreadstory.

Since my earliest memories I have heard voices and seen signs, since my earliest memories I have felt the need to rebel against constraints to live according to other people’s conventional expectations.

Todays meeting with this lovely man was a sign for me to write you a letter.

Oprah, I have written my memoir, which is recounted by my alter-ego Scarlett, my life has been five decades of adventure, intrigue, devastation, survival and miracles.

Oprah, this is a true story, this my story. My pray is for you to read my memoir, as…

Chasing Temples

Last week Made and myself have been chasing ancestral temples around the Island of The Gods here in Bali.

We climbed a mountain (1,175 metres above sea level) trekked, prayed, were blessed, swam, laughed and loved.

Made’s thirst for seeking the ancient Balinese Hindu ancestral traditions have blown my mind.

My new book about Bali will be a real eye opener, even for the Balinese.

The journey turned out to be a spellbinding spiritual quest, at one point we arrived at an ancient temple on the top of a mountain and I was left alone while Made went searching for a priest to unlock the gate.

I couldn’t help but recall the first time I encountered spirits when I was only twelve years old.

Excerpt Scarlett Voices In the Shadows, Chapter 4, Flow of Change

Something very strange and unnerving happened on that summer holiday. It was a rainy afternoon and one of my cousins announced it was time to play a game. There were five of my cousins of various ages huddled around the small caravan table. As my cousin placed the strange-looking board on the table, I began to feel anxious. I couldn’t explain the feeling; however, I felt an overwhelming sense of fear.

The ouija board was shouting at me. The board consisted of marked letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0–9, the words ‘yes’, ‘no’, and ‘goodbye’. My cousin Eric picked up an empty glass placed it on the table and instructed us all to hold hands. He then picked up the empty glass and asked the spirits to fill the glass. It was at this point that I felt like letting go and running as fast as I could.

I was horrified, terrified and overwhelmed with a sense of dread. Just as I was about to run, Eric instructed us to place our forefinger on the glass. At that moment the glass started moving violently towards the letters. I couldn’t believe the force with which the glass was moving. I couldn’t believe how my arm had no control of its own; my finger felt glued to the glass.

Eric was surprised as he had used the board previously and had never seen this happen before. He was also frightened. When he finally spoke, he asked the board a simple question, ‘Is someone there?’

The glass moved with a force of its own violently to the word ‘yes’.

I knew at that moment, as I knew I was breathing, that there was a spirit in the glass. I also knew that it felt completely wrong. We carried on during the next hour asking questions of the ouija board. The entire time, I felt an overwhelming dread. This was my first encounter with a dark spirit, a frightening introduction to the world of spirits.

I felt so scared that night that I confided to Mum what had happened. She was horrified and told me never to play the game again as it was very dangerous. When I pressed her for an explanation, Mum didn’t answer my question, she just danced her words in a confusing manner.

Later, I overheard a conversation Mum had with her best friend Aunty Pen on the pay phone near the camp kiosk. Mum explained how upset she was about the incident with the ouija board and how surprised she was that my aunt and uncle had allowed their children access to such a dangerous game.

Am I the Odd One Out

Am I the odd one out?

Do they judge me?

Do they laugh at me?

Do they gossip about me?

Do they abandon me because I’m a different colour?

Do they disown me because my mind gets confused?

Do they shun me because I wasn’t born in their Country?

Do they laugh about me because my retention of their language is blocked?

NO

templebusiness.jpg

Village life equates to many many temple ceremonies.  We visit our family and give offerings to the Gods. We then pray to our ancestors. Gratitude is the key to continual harmony in our Communities.

I am accepted as a community member without judgement.

Love and gratitude to our ancestors is the answer to freedom, after all ….

We are one 🙏

Balinese Magic

I was intimately involved in the process of our cousins becoming Sulinggih (priests)

I have woken this morning and feel different, like a dream, better than a pleasant dream.

I will write about this life changing phenomenon.

I feel privileged that as a writer, I will document the historical significance of last night.

I feel honoured and so very proud of my family, particularly my husband Made and myself for being servants to both the seen and unseen worlds. A rebirth…..literally.
